The Astronomer - Canberra Australia
The Astronomer outdoor sculpture by Tim Wetherell arose out of a commission to create a sculpture from the remains of the Yale Columbia Refractor destroyed in the 2003 Canberra bushfires. The pose and gesture of the iron figure suggests astronomy and examining the heavens, whilst the riveted plates give strong ties to the appearance and "flavour" of the original 1920's telescope.
