Mount Keira Lookout Mount Keira Lookout over Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Its distinctive shape and proximity to Wollongong make it a major local landmark. It is noted for the views of the city from the popular summit lookout and its history of coal mining. It was formed as part of the Illawarra escarpment fold between 80 and 60 million years ago and the erosion by creeks that ensued.

It was completed in 1832. Major Mitchell was the surveyor General a the time. On November 10 1830 Supervisor Elliot reported to Mitchell that 79 men were employed on the Pass of Victoria in grubbing and rolling off the timber, 39 men in quarrying rock and six masons were engaged in building the wall.
