ANZ Bank building cira 1892

The Forbes branch of the ANZ Bank stands on the corner of Lachlan and Spring Streets (opposite the former CBC Bank which is also registered) and is an important element in the streetscape. Built in 1892, the bank helps to reflect Forbes' development as a thriving pastoral and agricultural centre during the latter part of the nineteenth century. Italianate in style, the asymmetrical bank is constructed of stuccoed brick. The building is double storey with square headed windows which have some sill emphasis. Clad with corrugated iron is the hipped roof, whose eaves are bracketted.
