One of the best known artworks at Parliament House is the Forecourt mosaic. This unique feature is one of the original architectural commissions for the building, and forms part of the Parliament House Art Collection. The mosaic was designed by Indigenous artist Michael Tjapaltjarri Nelson, a leading artist from the Papunya community of the Northern Territory. It is based on his painting Possum and Wallaby Dreaming, which describes a gathering of a large group of people from the kangaroo, wallaby and goanna ancestors.
